As of Aug 20, Mamma Mia! has grossed $233,939,449 internationally and $124,486,900 in the US, for a worldwide total of $358,426,349, all on an budget of $52 million.
As of August 20, 2008, Mamma Mia! is the 3rd highest grossing movie musical in U.S. history, recently surpassing Hairspray (2007 film). The top grossing musicals of all time are Greese and Chicago. Gary Glitter has been sent back to Bangkok airport and is likely to be ordered onto a plane back to Britain later today after China became the latest country to reject the convicted child abuser.
Glitter is desperate to avoid returning to England. The Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has said that he would be banned from leaving the country to prevent “sex tourism”. She went on “I want Gary Glitter to be controlled whilst he’s here and I don’t want him to be able to go anywhere else in the world in order to abuse children,” she said.
The 64-year-old, whose real name is Paul Gadd, departed from Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday on a flight to London, via Bangkok. But once in the Thai capital, he refused to board the transfer flight to Heathrow, claiming he was suffering a heart attack and earache. But where do you think Gary Glitter will end up?

Rumours continue to circulate in the mainstream media and amoungst Labour backbenchers of plots to replace Gordon Brown.
Writing in the Guardian ex Brown fan Polly Toynbee has performed her own u-turn and is now convinced that he is not up to the job of Prime Minister, “The voters of Glasgow East have propelled forward the chance of a move against Brown. Given how widely and semi-openly his removal is discussed among a string of cabinet ministers, it looks more likely than not.”
Rachel Sylvester writing in today’s Times believes Glasgow East will prove the tipping point in persuading the Labour Party that it must act now or face total meltdown at the next election, “The Labour leader is still, in fact, alive - for now at least. But the plotters are increasing in number and confidence. Murder (committing or avoiding it) was the only thing on any-one’s mind as MPs fled Westminster for their summer holidays at the weekend.”
Writing on his blog, the BBC’s Political Editor, Nick Robinson has a hunch that Jack Straw might be thinking about a possible move - “Listen very hard this morning for what Jack Straw is and isn’t saying. The justice secretary has not called on the Labour Party to back Gordon Brown. Indeed he has not uttered any words himself at all since the Glasgow by-election.”
Andrew Porter, Political Editor of the Telegraph has compiled his list of the likely runners list here.
Possible candidates for PM include Jack Straw, Harriet Harman, David Miliband, Ed Balls, Alan Johnson and James Purnell, Jacqui Smith, Jon Cruddas and Andy Burnham - But who do you think it will be?

Can you predict how bad the slide in property prices will get this year?
We are now officially going through the worst housing slide since the Great Depression, economists declared after house price inflation dropped to the lowest level since comparable records began.
Figures from Halifax, the UK’s biggest mortgage lender, showed house prices have fallen by 8.7pc in the year to June, confirming that the property crunch is more severe than the last housing crash in the early 1990s. The Bank of England is now powerless to help the property market because of rising inflation and yesterday voted to leave rates unchanged at 5pc. According to the Halifax house prices dropped 2pc last month, following a 2.5pc slide in May. This fall rivals the slide in UK home values in the 1930s. But how bad will it get? Can you predict the outcome of the upcoming Glasgow East by-election on the 24th July? Gordon Brown faces complete humiliation if Labour loses Glasgow-East, where they are defending a 13,507 majority. Glasgow East includes some of the poorest parts of Britain, and is in the top 10 of safe seats for Labour. But after Brown’s recent slump in the polls there is a chance that the SNP could win.
Tomorrow Times is predicting that a defeat in Glasgow will spark a leadership crisis, even though the result will come after MPs have left Westminster for their summer break. A labour minister is quoted as saying ”Are we worried? Of course we’re worried - nothing is safe for us at the moment, and that means Gordon cannot be safe either.”
But what do you think will happen. Cast your predictions now.

Interviewed in today’s Daily Telegraph, John Bolton, the former American ambassador to the United Nations, has predicted that Israel could attack Iran after the November presidential election but before George W Bush’s successor is sworn in. Bolton a hawkish neocon goes on to say “the Israelis have one eye on the calendar because of the pace at which the Iranians are proceeding both to develop their nuclear weapons capability and to do things like increase their defences by buying new Russian anti-aircraft systems and further harden the nuclear installations . They’re also obviously looking at the American election calendar. My judgement is they would not want to do anything before our election because there’s no telling what impact it could have on the election.”

Almost £5,000 was wiped off house values after the largest single-month fall in the 17-year history of the Nationwide building society’s index. The average house now costs £173,583 - 4.4% lower than a year ago and the biggest annual decline since December 1992. Prices have fallen for seven months in a row. Economists expecting a 0.5% decline were stunned by the figures. Some warned of house prices falls of as much as 20% by the end of next year. Source: The Press Association
